Odelsteinhöhle

Admont

Johnsbach and its cave

As soon as the headlamps are on, the tour through the cave may begin. Add to that some good shoes and a warm jacket and off you go into the dark cave. Afterwards you will know a whole lot more about aragonite crystals, sinter columns and other stone formations to be found in the cave. The tour can be booked directly in Johnsbach at Kölblwirt Inn.

Besides Kraushöhle Cave, Odelsteinhöhle Cave is definitely another great fixture of the Gesäuse – especially for visitors interested in geology, rocks and exploring caves! It is located in the remote Johnsbachtal Valley at 1085 m and is famous for its beautiful greenish-blue aragonite crystals. Paying a visit to the Odelsteinhöhle Cave, which actually forms part of a 470-metre-long cave system, definitely pays off. Among other things, you will discover iron, copper and ore deposits. The latter can be found in the area of the Erzberg Mountain, around Radmer and Johnsbach.
